7 Easter Crafts Families Will Love

By Jo Philipp

Decorating your home for Easter is much more fun when you do it yourself! Homemade Easter crafts are a fun family activity and it’ll guarantee a personalised and unique décor to your home.

Here are our favourite Easter crafts for the whole family.

1. Painted Eggs

Eggs are an essential part of Easter and you can use them to create amazing decorations. All you need to have are white eggs, acrylic paint and brushes – you can also use glitter or stickers if you want.

Pierce a small hole in both ends of the eggs, for example, by using a pin. Keep piercing the holes until they are as big as the size of two toothpicks. Then simply blow inside the egg from one end and the contents will come out from the other end. Once the eggs are empty, you can start painting them!

Make sure you carefully handle the eggs once they are empty, as they can easily break. You can glue a toothpick inside the bottom hole of the egg and stick it to a sponge to ensure the paint can dry while the egg is upright.

Place the painted eggs to a small glass vase or a wooden basket.

2. Soft Easter Chicks

The Myrtle & Eunice blog has an amazing tutorial for making soft Easter chicks. These colourful chicks are a perfect addition to your windowsill and you can hide them in your flower baskets as well!

You can download the instructions from the blog. A good idea is to use your old fabrics for the project; even colourful fabrics would work well with this craft. This isn’t the easiest of projects, so it’s better to do with older kids!

3. Origami Bunnies

The best family crafts are the ones that don’t require you to buy tons of different things and go through ten pages of instructions. That is why these origami bunnies from the Origami Spirit website are a bright addition to your Easter décor.

The website has a simple video to follow. All you need is some colourful origami paper, which you can purchase online or from numerous retailers. The quirkiest paper for this craft is dual coloured varieties. They have a brighter colour on one side and a softer shade on the other.

You can then use the resulting bunnies for storing your small chocolate eggs!

4. Cotton Bud Lambs

Another animal closely associated with Easter is the lamb, and you can add beautiful cotton swab lambs to your tables and bookshelf. This craft idea is from the Crafts for All Seasons website and it is amazingly simple to do!

All you need is some cotton buds, sturdy white paper (like cardboard), scissors, glue, two wooden clothespins, and marker to draw the face of the lamb. You can also add a little ribbon for decoration if you want.

The website suggests using the lambs as name cards on your Easter dinner, which is a lovely idea. Alternatively, you could also create a lamb bunting by gluing the lambs to a piece of string and hanging around your bookshelf or windows!

5. Easter Egg Cress Heads

Nature is about to bloom during Easter and you can add a bit of that same feel inside your house with a little Easter egg cress garden. You just need some eggs and the egg case, compost, cress seeds and paint for decorating the eggs.

Decorate the egg case with paint and let it dry. Empty the eggs by carefully cracking the top part of the eggshell. You should leave the bottom part in tact because you’ll use the shells for growing the cress.

Add a bit of compost inside the eggshells and place the cress seeds inside (you can also use cotton wool instead of compost if you wish). Water and place on a sunny windowsill. Within one and half weeks to two weeks, the cress should have grown to provide you a lovely little garden. This is a fantastic garden project to do with kids.

Be as creative as you want when decorating the egg case. Remember that you can also place the eggshells on individual eggcups or any basket-type solution that ensures the eggs stay upright.

6. Hanging Easter Cone Baskets

You can also make simple cone basket for hanging beautiful spring flowers or chocolate treats. All you need is some sturdy colourful paper, things to decorate the basket, scissors, glue and string.

If you want to decorate the cones by drawing or painting, you can do it before folding the paper. Once done, fold the paper into a cone and glue appropriately. If you haven’t yet decorated the cone, you can do it now. Glue a piece of string to create a handle for the cone and to hang the cone from a branch, doorknob or even a nail on the wall.

Fill your cones with fake or real flowers or use the baskets for filling with tasty Easter treats.

You can also check out the Artists Helping Children website, which has printable cone models for crafting!

7. Daffodil Pinwheels

Daffodils are a beautiful flower in bloom for Easter. But instead of spending a lot of money buying the real thing, you can make paper daffodils! The pinwheel daffodil craft at the Nurture Store website is such a fun craft for the whole family.

You’ll just need yellow paper, green paper/green straws, an egg case, yellow or orange paint, a brush, a paper fastener, a stapler, a ruler, a pencil and scissors. It’s easy enough for most kids and you just need to help with a few trickier things.

Hang the beautiful daffodils from the above cone basket or place them into a glass vase. It makes a beautiful addition to your dinner table or even on the nightstand.

How to Organise a Child’s Bedroom

By Jo Philipp

One of the biggest struggles every parent will have to go through is getting children to organise their rooms. Organising the room is something you need to do, but it can be quite a struggle at times and you want to make it as straightforward as possible, while ensuring it doesn’t become a mess in a short space of time. Luckily, it is possible to make the process easier with little tricks. Here are our best tips for organising a child’s bedroom.

Start With De-cluttering

When you are looking to organise a child’s bedroom, the best action is to start with making sure the room isn’t filled with unnecessary clutter. For instance, your child’s wardrobes might have tons of different t-shirts, but think carefully about if you need them all. You can often get rid of little things that make a huge difference in terms of the overall space.

On top of this, it is a good idea to occasionally go through the toys as well. You can make a deal with the child that every six months or annually, you go through the toys and find one little box worth of toys you’ll give away. This gives your child the authority to pick the toys he or she doesn’t play with anymore and you’ll also make sure the room doesn’t pile up with toys. A number of UK charities would love to receive toy donations. Check out Good Green Fun, a charity that can collect donations from your home.

Should You Let Kids Decorate Their Own Room?

By Jo Philipp

Decorating is generally quite a fun experience, but it can get a bit more challenging when you have kids involved. Decorating your child’s room is important for ensuring you have a functional and pretty room and that the child likes spending time there. But should you let kids decorate their own rooms?

The Purpose of the Room

The first thing to keep in mind is the purpose of the room. When it comes to children’s bedrooms, it is important to keep in mind that they will be spending time there and not you. Therefore, you don’t want to decorate the room just on your own, as this might just result in a room that the child doesn’t even like to use or even be in.
