5 Unusual Bedroom Ideas for Boys

By Jo Philipp

When you are decorating children’s bedrooms, you want to find ideas that are both functional and fun. Often the best way is to pick a theme or specific colours and build décor around these ideas. But sometimes the variety of themes can end up creating rooms with similar looks and colours. Although your kid’s bedroom may look fun, it can be uninspiring to always use the same ideas and furniture pieces.

Therefore, you want to find some unusual ideas that brighten up the room and add a bit of quirkiness to the décor. We’ve looked around for some unique ideas and have picked our five favourite unusual ideas and themes for little boys.

1. Minecraft Block Inspiration

Little boys these days love the Minecraft game. This game is fantastically fun and plays with your kid’s imagination and creativity in a unique and fun way. But it also provides some unusual décor inspiration for your boy’s bedroom.

You could aim to create a décor that plays with the block-look of the Minecraft games. Pick very clear, colours and get a pixelated look to the room with clear lines and box-shaped furniture. For instance, paint the wall light green and add a few key characters from the game on the walls with posters and square frames. If you want to add a bit of depth on the walls, then paint with different shades to create that pixelated Minecraft-look.

Top Tips for a Split Theme Bedroom

By Jo Philipp

Bedrooms shared by a boy and a girl are typically decorated in a gender-neutral manner, which can be a great way to bring harmony into a room. However, you can play with contrasting colours and themes even in a split room. This can add much more character to a room, and picking two different themes to play with can highlight the fact the room has two occupants.

It’s also great for helping your kids feel like they have a part of the room that is truly theirs.

If you are looking to create a split theme bedroom with a twist, keep the following tips in mind.

Contrasting Colours

When you are picking the colours for a split bedroom, don’t be too scared to use contrasting shades. In fact, this will add much more flavour to the room and give it a unique, contemporary look.

For example, if you have a boy and a girl sharing the room, then you can easily stick to the traditional gender specific colour themes and go for a pink and a blue room to create a great contrast. If your girl is not a big pink lover, then you can go for a dark violet or a bright red colour.

Don’t be afraid of the split!

Do Wall Borders Work on Their Own?

By Jo Philipp

Decorating a child’s bedroom can sometimes be a costly process. Sometimes it is due to people trying to fit too many decorative elements into the room, especially on the walls, thinking children’s bedroom walls require more decorations to look good. But you have ways to achieve a beautiful, colourful look without having to fill your walls with expensive decorative elements.

Wall borders are a great way to save money, while still adding plenty of character to the room. There are also plenty of ways to make use of wall borders in children’s rooms. Here’s a look at how to make the most of wall borders when using them on their own.

No Necessity to Use Paint

Wall borders are a great way to add colour to a room and you don’t necessarily need to repaint the bedroom walls, especially if you have a very neutral paint colour already in the room, and your walls are clean.

If your walls are painted with a clear colourful shade, try to ensure the wall border that you use has this same colour in its design. It doesn’t need to be the main colour in the wall border, but you want the design to fit the wall paint.
