Why Kids Wall Stickers Loves Tinker Bell

By Jo Philipp

The magical world of children’s stories is full of amazing fairies, but one of the most loved fairies of them all has to be Tinker Bell. Tinker Bell is the somewhat feisty, yet helpful fairy, who entered the big stage in 1904, and since then she has entertained us in movies, musicals and books. Today, Tinker Bell is one of Disney’s most recognisable characters!

Here’s the beautiful story of Tinker Bell, and why we love her so much.

The Birth of the Character

Tinker Bell, or Tink for short, is the creation of the writer J.M. Barrie. She was first introducedin the original 1904 play Peter Pan. A few years later, in 1911, J.M. Barrie turned the play into a novel and published the story of Peter and Wendy, which we all know and love today.

Tinker Bell was a little bit different in the original play than the Tink we are familiar with today. Her funky name, Tinker Bell, actually came from the storyline where she was an actual tinker for the fairies! This meant that she was always mending pots and kettles for other’s to use – hard to imagine Tinker Bell today getting her hands dirty with such work! Continue reading

Kids Wall Stickers and The Story of Tatty Teddy

By Jo Philipp

One of the most beloved teddy bears of all time is the beautiful Tatty Teddy bear and his friends. These bears, also known as Me to You bears owing to the brand, have been decorating our children’s rooms – and been great romantic gifts, too – since the late 1980s.

So, what is the background of Tatty Teddy and how to add a bit of its magic to your child’s room or nursery?

Drawing Under a Pen Name

Although Tatty Teddy is such a popular bear and most recognise the look immediately, the illustrator behind the original idea isn’t as well known. One reason could be that the illustrator, Michael “Mike” Payne, actually used a pen name to draw the images.

Mr Payne approached Carte Blanche Greetings company in 1987 with a sketch of the character. He had signed his drawings with the pen name ‘Miranda’. The name came from a houseboat he used to holiday on with his family.

Carte Blanche Greetings loved the beautiful images and took the design under its wings. In the first few years, all prints with Tatty Teddy were signed by ‘Miranda’, although this has later changed to a simple ‘Tatty Teddy x’ or ‘T x’.

Furthermore, the beautiful Tatty designs that you find in cards, prints, wall stickers and other such products are now drawn by a number of artists. After Mr Payne, there have been a number of illustrators, even though the design has remained almost unchanged ever since 1995. The most recent artists to work on the design include Steve Mort-Hill and Ceri Lewis.

Bringing Tatty Teddy Alive

As the popularity of the Me To You Bears grew, Carte Blanche Greetings started looking into new ways to let people enjoy this amazing design. They decided to bring Tatty Teddy alive and create a soft toy version to accompany the beautiful prints.

In 2000, the first Tatty Teddy soft toys were produced and the honour of crafting the first toys went to Linda Laverty. The beautiful soft toys had the looks we all fell in love with – the short grey fur, small black eyes, a soft snout and the distinctive blue nose. It was sewn to look like it had patches and the arms and head showed signs of repair.

A few years later, the second generation of Tatty Teddy soft toys hit the shelves. These had a bit finer fur and they also included a beautiful storybook of the origins of the Me To You bears. In 2009, the third generation of soft toys saw their daylight.

The soft toys proved to be an instant hit and you can now buy soft toys in many shapes and sizes. Tatty Teddy has received a range of new looks with hats, t-shirts and scarves, but all containing that important Tatty Teddy message of love.

The limited edition soft toys have become increasingly popular. A number of people collect these amazing toys these days and you should definitely check your wardrobes to see if you have any cuddly bears lying around. Some of the collector’s items can actually be worth a bit of money these days!

‘I Love You’ and the Messages of Love

One of the reasons Tatty Teddy has been so popular is all about the fantastic message of love it comes with. Ever since the first cards were printed, the message was always a simple message of love.

The soft toys at the start always had the text ‘Me to You’ written on them and the prints are often very touching with the bears hugging or kissing or just looking after each other.

It isn’t any wonder then that as well as being a popular product among babies and children; Tatty Teddy is also one of the most bought prints during Valentine’s Day.

Beautiful Tatty Teddy stickers ooze love!

Overall, the popularity has been astonishing. The Me to You range was selling around £2,972,000 worth of products in 1999 and by 2003 this had risen to £33,021,500! The official website received over 11,000,000 unique hits in 2004.

Taking Over the World

The Tatty Teddy design has long been only on sale here in the UK. But the product is famous among tourists and the world has fallen in love with the cuddle bears. It isn’t any wonder that finally in 2011 the Douglas Company started selling the brand on the other side of the Atlantic, in Canada and the US. You could even sleep at a Tatty Teddy themed bedroom on your next visit to Alton Towers.

The growing popularity has also seen a massive increase in products available with the beautiful Me to You design. It isn’t just greeting cards – although you can find a card for any imaginable occasion! – and soft bears, but also office accessories, bed linen and even clothing for children.

You can even decorate a full room with the Tatty Teddy theme. We have a beautiful range of wall stickers available to add a soft touch to your child’s bedroom or playroom. The beautiful grey design with a touch of pink, red and blue guarantee you can use the stickers together with other colours. Whether your walls are soft pink or blue, or even a darker shade of orange or green, these wall stickers add plenty of character to the room.

Furthermore, the product line isn’t the only thing that has grown; it’s also the number of Me to You characters. In 2008, the company introduced us to the Blue Nose friends. The story goes that Tatty Teddy was feeling a bit lonely and so one night he dreamt of getting new friends and the next morning the wardrobe was full of amazing blue nosed characters! You can see the story in the Youtube video below.

Tatty Teddy with his beautiful messages of love has captured our imagination for so many years. It is amazing to think how a few simple drawings can cause such an impact on a whole nation and get us all excited about his adventures. It is hard to see that the Me to You family would ever stop captivating us and we hope Tatty Teddy continues to spread the love for many more years to come!

5 Spring Cleaning Tips for Your Home

How to Incorporate the Seasons into Your Kids Room Décor

Spring Decorating Ideas

Using Wall Stickers to Create a Fun Playroom

By Jo Philipp

Wall stickers are a clever way to decorate a child’s bedroom or playroom.

Instead of just adding them on the walls, look to incorporate their design and theme into the room’s décor. This way, you’ll end up with an interactive and creative room that sparks the child’s imagination and makes play time more fun and educational.

If you are looking to create a fun and creative playroom, then here are some ideas on how to use wall stickers in your décor.

Educational Fun

Toddler playrooms should have plenty of educational toys and decorations. You don’t want to make the room feel like a schoolroom where all your little one does is study the alphabet, but at the same time you do want to encourage your child to ask questions and learn new things. If you make learning a fun experience that takes place during playtime, your child won’t ever lose that quest to experience and discover new things.
