Top Tips for a Split Theme Bedroom

By Jo Philipp

Bedrooms shared by a boy and a girl are typically decorated in a gender-neutral manner, which can be a great way to bring harmony into a room. However, you can play with contrasting colours and themes even in a split room. This can add much more character to a room, and picking two different themes to play with can highlight the fact the room has two occupants.

It’s also great for helping your kids feel like they have a part of the room that is truly theirs.

If you are looking to create a split theme bedroom with a twist, keep the following tips in mind.

Contrasting Colours

When you are picking the colours for a split bedroom, don’t be too scared to use contrasting shades. In fact, this will add much more flavour to the room and give it a unique, contemporary look.

For example, if you have a boy and a girl sharing the room, then you can easily stick to the traditional gender specific colour themes and go for a pink and a blue room to create a great contrast. If your girl is not a big pink lover, then you can go for a dark violet or a bright red colour.

Don’t be afraid of the split!

Girls Bedroom Ideas When They’re Not a Girly Girl

By Jo Philipp

The stereotype for a girl’s bedroom is all about fairy-tales, but not every girl is into pink and princess themed things.

It doesn’t mean girls don’t want to have a pretty and fun bedroom!

If you are looking to decorate a girl’s bedroom for someone who isn’t a girly girl, there are some fantastic ideas and tips for a beautiful room.

Neutral, Bright Colours

You don’t want to go with pastel shades in the room, as these can look very girly and childish when used incorrectly. Instead, try to find neutral and bright colours to add character to the room without it screaming a girl lives there. Bright, clear colours always add character and depth to the room, while very soft shades do add a lighter touch to the room.

Do Wall Borders Work on Their Own?

By Jo Philipp

Decorating a child’s bedroom can sometimes be a costly process. Sometimes it is due to people trying to fit too many decorative elements into the room, especially on the walls, thinking children’s bedroom walls require more decorations to look good. But you have ways to achieve a beautiful, colourful look without having to fill your walls with expensive decorative elements.

Wall borders are a great way to save money, while still adding plenty of character to the room. There are also plenty of ways to make use of wall borders in children’s rooms. Here’s a look at how to make the most of wall borders when using them on their own.

No Necessity to Use Paint

Wall borders are a great way to add colour to a room and you don’t necessarily need to repaint the bedroom walls, especially if you have a very neutral paint colour already in the room, and your walls are clean.

If your walls are painted with a clear colourful shade, try to ensure the wall border that you use has this same colour in its design. It doesn’t need to be the main colour in the wall border, but you want the design to fit the wall paint.

Understand When to Save

The first thing you want to do is to make a list of the essential items you need for the nursery. You should definitely focus on a few essential furniture pieces, such as the cot and cabinets.
